ELKINS HIGH SCHOOL

Chapter Focus
At the Elkins HS PEAC chapter, we focus on inspiring kids to pursue Computer Science and develop their programming and skills, giving them the resources they need to go beyond the basics. Every week, we host lessons that focus on computational concepts and work on developing the kids critical thinking and creative problem solving skills. During the first semester we make sure they have a strong foundation when it comes to coding concepts by teaching the fundamentals through Scratch. Then, during the second semester we put those skills into use and have them learn the foundation of Web Development, allowing them to create their own unique and dynamic websites.
Projects
STEM FAIR
We are currently working on planning our STEM fair, which we will be turning into an annual event. We are working with several other PEAC chapters to provide a day of fun and learning to kids from elementary to middle schools, by setting up rotations focused on programming, science, and other STEM subjects. Through this project we hope to inspire kids to pursue STEM careers and get them interested in these topics at a young age.
FUNDRAISER FOR LEBANESE RED CROSS
With the recent crisis in Lebanon, we wanted to do our part to help out. We are going to be hosting a fundraiser to raise money to donate to the Lebanese Red Cross, to help provide some relief to the people of Lebanon.
